Hampton, VA -- February 10, 2005 -- The Commonwealth of Virginia Family and Children's Trust Fund (FACT) has awarded BPSOS-Hampton $5,000 to determine the needs of the Vietnamese community and build a domestic violence program accordingly. This new grant will expand the successful project currently implemented in the metropolitan DC area. The project will provide culturally appropriate outreach and education to the local community. By engaging the community, partnering with local domestic violence service providers, and providing referrals to Vietnamese community members experiencing domestic violence, the goal of the Community Against Domestic Violence program is to build understanding and expand the use of available services by Vietnamese Americans. "We are excited to partner with FACT to develop this new resource for the Vietnamese community and to assist in connecting the community to these needed services," stated Jean Bruggeman, Esq., BPSOS' Survivor Services Department Director. The Family and Children's Trust Fund is governed by a Board of Trustees appointed by the Governor to raise and distribute funds for family violence prevention, including child abuse and neglect, domestic violence, adult abuse and neglect, sexual assault and suicide.
